Happy Easter From Kwahu
A Very Ghanaian Easter Holiday
By Rita Aikins
“Kwahu ooo Kwahu!”
That’s how the chant goes as merchants advertise various activities happening in Kwahu during these holidays.
Every Easter, a great percentage of the Ghanaian population spend their holidays at Kwahu.
But what are celebrations without tourists? In Ghana, the celebrations are only complete when they involve others from across Africa and the world.
Kwahu is the highest habitable elevation in the country, located in the Eastern region, to the west shore of Lake Volta.
Fun activities to do:
If you’re looking for a hiking experience, the mountains of Kwahu are the best places to visit.
The Paragliding Festival is one of a kind as it is only held during Easter. The festival is celebrated at Atibie in Kwahu, where seasoned pilots are invited to participate in the activities, and thousands of people come to share in the fun.
Catch the Carnival and Street jams at Kwahu this and every Easter. There are also various performances by seasoned entertainers to keep you wanting more.
If you want to drown out the noisy world, the Oworobong Water Falls at Oworobong and the Oku Falls at Bokuruwa are perfect for this cause.
Other tourist attractions are the Abetifi Stone Age Park, the Gaping Rock at Kotoso, the Padlock Rock at Akwasiho, the Nana Adjei Ampong Cave at Abene, and the Ramseyer Route at Abetifi.
What is an annual homecoming for the indigenous people of Kwahu, is an occasion for sharing in the joy of Easter for all revelers.
